Poem - Heaven on Earth
My college is situated a little far from the main town, where a mountain range can be seen afar. These mountains are the beloved Western Ghats. A lot of people travel there to enjoy the view of the valley and to visit the entirely different world on the other side of the mountains.
There's a little nook in my college on the topmost floor, where the mountains in their full glory can be seen. The header picture above is the view that I can see from the nook. The camera doesn't do the view justice and only the eye of the person can appreciate it a lot better, as the little details of trees in the sunlight can be seen with our own naked eyes.
I don't get to go to that nook a lot (college students are pretty busy!), but whenever I do, I always stay for a while to enjoy the view and praise God for the creation of such beauty. Mountains have always been of such fascination to me; whenever I look at the sheer vastness, I always wish I could sprout wings on my back and fly towards them. Seeing them always makes me feel wanderlust and tickles my desire of wanting freedom from the cares of this world.
A friend of mine took me to this nook last year for the first time and I was astonished at the beauty of the sight before me. For a moment, I felt the same way as the poet William Wordsworth when he saw the beauty of a sunrise over London upon Westminster Bridge; a moment which prompted him to write the poem 'Composed Upon Westminister Bridge, September 03, 1802'. The second time I visited the nook, I wrote a poem about what I felt there, which you can read below:

This picture is the 'stairway to Heaven'! The door to this place is actually right next to my class but it is locked and there's only another route to take, which is slightly longer. It really is a dusty place but when I was there first, the dust didn't bother me in the least. I was mesmerised by the view, and it was, in a way, almost intoxicating.
I'm in my final year now, and I have only a few months left before I leave college. When I think of it, I don't think I'll ever get an opportunity after my college life to ever see such grandeur in full view before me. While I still have time, I can and will soak up the good feelings and memories I have made here, simply by just standing there and watching the mountains from a perched bird's eye view.
