Poem - The Current State of Affairs

The situation of my country as of late has been deteriorating. Across the length and breadth of the country, people are suffering. Farmers have been protesting for months against unfair laws regarding farming land, there are many internal issues like unresolved rape cases, general injustice, sexism, misogyny, passing of strange laws, the coronavirus, etc. There are so many issues that I have yet to learn in detail about the worrisome condition of the country.

William Butler Yeats, a 20th-century poet from Ireland wrote a poem called 'Easter 1916' reflecting the ill effects of the Dublin Revolution on his country. He also talked about the people he knew and loved (and that one man who he hated is also mentioned) who took an active part in the revolution and died. And in his other poem 'A Prayer For My Daughter', he was worried about the future of his country, even feeling that the end of the world was near, and wrote the poem expressing his desire for his daughter to grow up to be virtuous.

Rabindranath Tagore, a Bengali poet, wrote 'Where The Mind Is Without Fear', expressing his hopes for India just before her independence.

Taking inspiration from the sentiments of both these poems, I wrote my own poem expressing my concern for my country that is in shambles, which you can read below.

(trigger warning: mention of rape)

The country has been in shambles for the longest time. A lot of people are unhappy and humanity and love in the hearts of people are slowly seeping out to make a place for pride, greed, status, and injustice. India allows freedom of speech to her citizens, yet I was discouraged from expressing my views about the matter. What does this say about the condition of the said freedom? India and the world are heading to ruin.

As a follower of Jesus, I've read that the Bible in its prophetic books has talked about how violence, injustice, and every bad thing will be rampant in the world as time gets closer to the second coming of Jesus. It doesn't take a Christian or even a rocket scientist to be able to tell that the world is going downhill. I believe that this Earth is heaving her last breaths. It won't be long before we see Jesus come.

At this stage, we cannot hope for a better future on this Earth. But believe it or not, I am hopeful for the second coming when sin is destroyed and all things are made new.
